This weeks Video about being confident with public speaking:
Public speaking has been one of my worst fears since the oratorical competition in fourth grade. Over the years I did get used to presentations and in a way accepted my fate for the never-ending fear they produced. This video definitely helped with my stress about my upcoming presentation for the Honors Mentorship Program. It taught me that being more than just prepared makes you more confident when in front of an audience. The more you know about your topic, the more passionate you become, and the audience becomes interested with your research. Captivating your audience is the main key. No one likes a boring presentation and you do not want to waste your hard work on people sleeping through it. I plan to interact with the audience and maybe if I am comfortable make a few jokes to lighten the mood. The narrator of the story also mentioned how important it is to have the correct posture. You want to make sure you are standing natural, but tall and confident. The taller you stand the more air you are able take in during a presentation. My main goal is make sure I take time during my presentation and breathe. I always tend to race through presentations because I am terrified and all I want to do is sit down away from everyone’s eyes. I need to prepare weeks in advance and make sure I have my material memorized and am able to make examples and provide pictures for support. Pronunciation is also a main goal of mine. I want people to understand me and acknowledge the fact that I know what I am talking about and that I come across as professional.
