It has already been two weeks with my speech therapist internship and I have learned so much. With this internship I am hoping to gain a better insight of what speech pathology and audiology really is and where exactly I want to go with this major in college. The internship has taught me the importance of asking questions and how to catch and watch for errors, when watching children during speech class. For example, when watching a little boy talk, I was told to observe how he formed the words with his lips and tongue because if the child was using his tongue or lips incorrectly when talking you can easily pin point the problem. The actions that I will take in order to create the best learning environment for me is ask questions when I do not clearly understand a term being used, take notes on each class I observe and the behavior that I notice. It is very important for me to take notes because it will later help me see the development that has happened in each child throughout the year. I am a very indesive person when it comes time to my future. This internship is helping me "test the waters" with this specific topic and allowing me to see if I would continue speech pathology in college. Learning the guidelines for my mentorship, will help me completely understand who my mentor is and how she reached her goals. I cannot wait to see what this year has to offer me!
