This week, I was told to watch the video "Awareness is Not Enough" and I took a lot of different ideas about our environment into prospective. I did not realize how much of our society is dependent on technology, and so much so that they are too lazy to make a difference in what is happening in the world around them. JD Russo talks about the idea of plastic pollution. He alludes to the idea that people do know about this growing problem, but simply do not care. They are indifferent. Indifferent was the theme of the video. Indifference is the absence of action and emotion. It has come to my attention that our culture is thriving on this trait. We no longer take action and we wait until a change is made and sometimes this never happens. We need to understand that action needs to be taken in order to make our world a better place. The society complains and complains about plastic pollution, but companies still produce plastic cups, plastic straws, and plastic plates. How does that make any sense or any difference? JD Russo mentions "the power is possible when someone cares". Why don't we care? What is stopping people from expressing their beliefs and going after what is right and what is wrong. We all have voices, why don't we use them? This video really spoke to me. It really made me realize the importance of passion and the importance in making a difference in the job field I hope to excel in. Speech Therapy is all about helping a person any size and any age be able to communicate again. Communication is such a fine detail that people take advantage of everyday without the realization of what would happen if they simply could not talk. Usually what happens in our society is when a person does not have a skill everyone else has they are ignored and simple labled as abnormal. I have learned from my mentorship that teaching these children how to form the sounds, such as "r", makes such difference in their lives, but people do not realize it. My goal in this mentorship is to teach these children how to talk, but create an environment to make it seem like they are simply in another class. They are no different than anyone else. I plan to make a difference in the speech pathology and audiology field by producing a fun environment for the children and making sure they get the growth and love they deserve.
